The Parishat, in collaboration with the Youth Services and Sports Department, conducted the "Ankura" dance festival last week. The festival provided a good opportunity for the young dance aspirants to exhibit their talents and kuchipudi and Kathak styles apart from Bharathanatya were performed at the Yavanika auditorium.
Manasa P who gave a Bharathanatya recital on last Tuesday is from an agriculturist family in Mandya. The student of Gurudeva academy of fine arts, she has successfully passed the proficiency examination and has completed the ‘rangapravesha’ also. The ‘Pushpanjali’ (Valachi) gave Manasa a good start. She was confident in the interpretation for Daru in Kamach, accounted for her steady stance. She performed the devaranama, dramatising the different episodes. But smiling in the same way through out will be counter productive. She concluded with a fine thillana in the raga Anandabairavi. She was supported by Balasubramanya Sharma (Vocal), Guru Chethana Radhakrishna (Natuvanga), Lingaraju (Mridanga) and Narayan (Violin).
Another dancer Aparna Shastry is a student of Venkatesh Natya Mandira and has passed senior examination and has completed the ‘rangapravesha’ in 2006 itself. She has performed in a few places and has taken active part in some dance dramas also.
The stately varna "Rupamu Jusi" revealed a keen sense of Laya, a neat stance vouching for his confidence. Though lacking in grace, the ease in the disposal of the Theermanas spoke for steady practice. But her facials failed to impress. Srivathsa (vocal), K R S Pulikeshi (Natuvanga), Lingraju (Mridanga) and Madhusudhan (Violin) gave good support to her.
