A 23-year-old woman was abducted and gang raped in a moving car by her neighbour and his friends in Noida on Tuesday, police said.
Two persons were arrested in connection with the case on Wednesday, police said. The accused have been identified as Rahul and Deepak, while another person, Vijay Sharma, is absconding.
The woman, who was travelling to Gurgaon in search of a job, was offered a lift by her neighbour Sharma.
He drove her to Noida, where he asked her to board another car in which his three friends were sitting, police said.
The four men then drugged her and gang raped her in the moving car, police added.
She was later dumped near Hoshiyarpur village in Noida Sector 51. Locals spotted her and took her to hospital, Noida SP Anant Dev said.
Noida police did not register a case since she was abducted in Ghaziabad. On Tuesday evening, she was sent to Vijay Nagar police station, where a case against the four accused was filed.
Police have registered the case under sections 364 and 376 of the IPC against the four accused. On March 9, a 24-year-old woman was abducted and raped in Bajghera village in Gurgaon while she was waiting for a bus with her child.
Another 23-year-old woman was allegedly abducted and gang raped in a flat in Gurgaon on March 11.
Superintendent of Police J K Shahi said Sharma's mother and brother have been detained.
Gurgaon reacts to rape
After two cases of gang rape were reported from Gurgaon in the last three days, Deputy Commissioner P C Meena on Wednesday asked shopping mall and pub owners not to keep women employees on duty beyond 8 pm.
Women employees can work beyond 8 pm only with the permission of the labour department. The DC said if women employees work beyond 8 pm, their safety is the responsibility of the employer. “Women should be dropped home in a vehicle owned by the establishment concerned.”
The employer must also keep a daily record of the vehicle used, its registration number, time of departure and name of the driver who is ferrying women employees.
Most importantly, the area from where women employees board vehicles must be covered by CCTV cameras.
