Samajwadi Party leader and Uttar Pradesh minister Azam Khan, who was banned from campaigning in the state, said he would move the court against the Election Commission (EC) that ''acted at the behest of the Congress'' even as a case was filed against him in Shamli district.

In a statement here, Khan said the action against him was taken on the direction of the Congress. “The Congress is using the EC like (it used) the CBI,” he alleged.

The SP leader urged the EC to differentiate between his statement and the one made by BJP leader Amit Shah. “The EC must tell the differences between my and Shah’s remarks,” he asserted. He said he was exploring legal options to challenge the EC order.

On Saturday, a fresh case was lodged against the firebrand leader for his alleged “hate-speech” in Shamli district. “The case was registered in Thana Bhawan police station for his remarks at a rally in Jalalabad area on April 8,” Muzaffarnagar District Magistrate N P Singh told reporters.
