The NDMC has made minor improvements in the existing software for issuing birth and death certificates in hospitals in the council area. The council has provided all hospitals with the printing option to issue the first free copy of birth and death certificates.
Currently, the five civic agencies – North, South and East Delhi Municipal Corporation, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and Delhi Cantonment Board – register births and deaths as per the provisions of the Registration of Birth and Death Act, 1969.
These agencies are also authorised to issue birth and death certificates.
First hospital
Over a week back, Lok Nayak Hospital became the first government hospital to hand over the first free birth certificate before the baby was discharged.
Chief Secretary S K Srivastava had said all government hospitals will be soon authorised to issue certificates by end of the year.
The NDMC will implement the system in all government hospitals in the council area as soon as it receives nominations from the individual hospitals, said NDMC chairperson Jalaj Shrivastava.
The nominated officers will be designated as sub-registrars by the chief registrar office to sign on the first free copy of birth or death certificate, which will be handed over to the nearest relative.
The council’s birth and death registration unit held a workshop at International Inoculation Centre in Mandir Marg on Sunday to give hospital representatives a hands-on training on issuing the first birth and death certificates.
Representatives from all the hospitals in the NDMC’s jurisdiction like the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, Kalawati Saran Hospital, Lady Hardinge Hospital, Safdarjang Hospital, Shanti Avedna Hospital, Palika Maternity Hospital, JPNA Trauma Centre (AIIMS), Northern Railway Hospital and Charak Palika Hospital participated in the workshop.
While the council’s IT department spoke about the software improvements, the medical officer of the council’s health department emphasised on the need for enhancing the soft skills while dealing with the public.
Also, officers need to be careful while handing out the free copy, as there is legal liability attached when issuing such certificates, he added.
Fun activity for kids
To encourage children to take an active interest in art and culture, the NDMC displayed paintings and craft models at Talkatora Stadium.
Children in the NDMC’s six schools had prepared these paintings in workshops held by the council during the past month. These workshops were held across seven centres.
The main objective of organising the summer vacation workshops is to make children utilise their time and express their talents, said NDMC director of education Vidushi Chaturvedi.
