Blazing inferno kills three of a family

Three member of a family were charred to death after a fire broke out at their house at Bawana in the Outer District in the wee hours on Thursday.

Police said the victims were Krishna Singh, 42, her son Deepak Singh,12, and the boy’s grandfather Narayan Singh, 85. While Krishna and Deepak died on the spot, Narayan succumbed to burnd later in the day.

The incident took place at around 3:35 am in at Rakesh Singh’s house in Sultanpur Dabas area of Outer Delhi where the victims lived. Fire department got a call around 3:44 am and two fire brigade engines, deployed to douse the flame, put it off in half an hour, said a brigade official.

“After having dinner at around 9 pm Tuesday night, Krishna and her youngest son were sleeping in a room on on two different beds. Narayan Singh, Dheeraj and Kamalnath were sleeping in the other room,” the investigating officer said.

Police said soon after the fire engulfed the room, Narayan was in flames and he rushed outside. However, Dheeraj and Kamalnath ran out of the room, escaping burns. The neighbours called the police control room and the fire services.

All the three victims were rushed to Bhim Rao Ambedkar Hospital, but Krishna and Deepak were declared brought dead. Narayan was referred to Lok Nayak Hospital as his conditon was critical. He later succumbed to his injuries in the evening, police added. By the time Rakesh Singh - Krishna’s husband, rushed to the hospital after getting a call from the neighbours of the victims, his family was all but wiped out.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) B S Jaiswal said a team of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was sent to the site to ascertain the cause of the fire. “Short-circuit might be the reason behind the fire.Investigation is on.”

Deepak was a student of Class IV at the government school in the village. Narayan Singh was a farmer and a landlord. His son, Rakesh Singh, a property dealer, used to visit his family once every three to four days.
