Researchers at the University of Sheffield have developed the combination that when given to the patient for over a period of six weeks was as effective as six months of treatment.
The team found that when a combination of doxorubicin — a chemotherapy drug commonly given to stop tumour growth — and zoledronic acid — a well-tolerated treatment given to protect bone in advanced breast cancer — regularly given to breast cancer patients destroyed tumours in a shorter period of time.
