The Delhi Integrated Multi-modal Transit Sytems (DIMTS) on Wednesday suspended re-operationalising the Ambedkar Nagar-Moolchand BRT corridor of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system.
The decision to revert to the older traffic plan — with reserved lanes for buses — has been put off due to a technical problem with the signalling system.
“Due to the ongoing digging work of Metro Phase-III, the optical fibre cable was damaged in the area of Bahadur Shah Zaffar Marg. This has interrupted data flow essential for the operation of the ISS (intelligent signaling system) on the BRT corridor, said a DIMTS spokesperson.
“ISS works on SCOOT, a technique that controls traffic signals, with the operation control centre at Kashmere Gate, for which this communication is essential. Work is on to restore the cables so as to have the system running smoothly again,” the spokesperson added.
With Central Road Reserach Institute (CRRI) completing its court-ordered experimental trial run and handing over the operation of the 5.8 km stretch back to Delhi Integrated Multi-modal Transit System on Saturday, traffic was due to be reverted to the older plan with dedicated lane for buses from Tuesday midnight. This delay has come as a brief relief for motorists.
