Unidentified burglars struck at the residence of a human resource development ministry official in R K Puram area of south Delhi and decamped with Rs 50,000 cash, police said on Sunday.

Ajay Pal Singh, a resident of R K Puram Sector 1, told police that the theft took place between August 17 and 24. “Ajay and his family members had left home, on August 17, to visit his sick father in Dev Nagar,” a senior police official said.

When they returned on August 24, they were shocked to see the locks of the main door broken and the house ransacked. He claims that burglars took away Rs 50,000 cash.
“We suspect the role of some known persons behind the crime, as it seemed that the miscreants knew the house well,” the official added.

A case has been registered over the incident at R K Puram police station. The charges are of house-breaking and theft under sections 457 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code.
