As it was a holiday and most of the people were at home, candidates in wards under Sarvagnanagar Assembly constituency hit the campaign trail early on Saturday to catch up with their voters.

Supporters of the candidates went on a door-to-door canvassing, distributed pamphlets and appealed to people vote for their party. Curious onlookers gathered amidst the drumrolls melted out as the candidates hit the streets. The campaigning looked nothing short of celebration with firecrackers being burst with slogans raised by supporters in the background. Autorickshaws, cars and bikes occupied by supporters flanked the flags bearing the symbol of political parties.

JD(S) candidate Hennur Srinivas, canvassing from HBR Layout (Ward Number 24), finished his second round of door-to-door campaigning on Saturday. He said that he will start third round from Sunday. BJP Candidate K Narayanaswamy too visited houses and canvassed accompanied by the party’s general secretary C T Ravi.

Door-to-door campaigning was done by all the three major parties’ candidates in the constituency. At Maruthi Sevanagar (Ward Number 59), BJP Candidate Suma  Srinivas visited houses at Satyanagar, Jeevanahalli and later joined the Independence celebrations organised by a private organisation at Hutchins Road.

A few residents, however, were undettered by the promises made by the candidates. Muniraju N, a resident of Hennur, said the candidates have promised the local community of better roads, regular drinking water supply and sanitation facilities. He added: “Every candidate makes promises. But after getting elected, they fail to stick to their words.”

A few candidates from Sarvagnanagar constituency are planning to rope in political bigwigs in the next few days to woo more number of voters. While JD(S) candidate from HBR Layout ward, Hennur Srinivas will have his party leader H D Kumaraswamy campaigning for him, BJP candidate from Kacharakanahalli (Ward Number 29), Padmanabha Reddy said he will get the State leaders from his party to support him, though the names are not yet finalised.
