Tourism Department Secretary Anil Kumar said that cases would be filed against illegal homestays functioning in Kodagu district.
Speaking at a review meeting on Friday, he said the department has been receiving complaints regarding unauthorised homestays in the district. The homestay owners should adhere to the guidelines issued by the state government. Cases would be filed against all the unauthorised homestays.
SP Rajendra Prasad said that Tourism Department should issue 'No Objection Certificate' only after verifying it. Local bodies should take action against unauthorised home stays.
Homestay Association Member B G Ananthashayana raised the issue of development of Raja seat and parking of tourist vehicles. Tourist places lack basic facilities, he said.
Member Karumbaiah said there is a need to collect information on registered and unregistered homestays in the district.
Association President Changappa said "Kodagu district is known for its nature's beauty. There is a need to preserve nature."
Tourism Department officer C Jagannath said a total of 725 persons have applied online seeking permission for homestays in the district. As many as 350 persons have paid the tax.
Zilla Panchayat CEO Prashanth Kumar and Commissioner B Shubha were also present in the meet.
