The city Congress is facing dissent over its decision of not supporting any party for government formation.
After the Assembly elections in 2013, only eight Congress MLAs survived the ant-incumbency wave and now most of them feel that another election will take a toll of their seats.
Two senior party MLAs, Hasan Ahmed from Mustafabad Assembly area and Mateen Ahmed from Seelampur Assembly constituency have voiced against party’s will.
Mateen reportedly told reporters that he will support the Bharatiya Janata Party in government formation.
“I will definitely not join the BJP. But option are open for supporting any party from outside for government formation,” he said.
Sources said about six party MLAs had a series of meetings with senior BJP leaders but all the meetings ended inconclusive.
The city Congress, however, maintained that there cannot be any compromise with party’s resolutions.
“We have recently passed a resolution during a party meet that we will support no other party for government formation and we will go for elections,” said a senior party leader.
The leader also rejected the speculations about some party MLAs trying to join BJP.
“The party is united under the leadership of Arvinder Singh Lovely. The MLAs will only follow the decisions of party high command,” he said.
After the Aam Aadmi Party’s decision of not supporting any party for government formation in Delhi, the only hope for the eight Congress MLAs is BJP.
Party’s state unit chief Arvinder Singh Lovely and former Delhi Minister Haroon Yusuf are the only two Congress MLAs who have openly voiced against supporting any party.
Rest of the six MLAs including Jai Kishan, Devender Yadav, Prahald Singh Sahni and Asif Mohammad Khan, are rescuing themselves from party’s protests and other public meetings.
Many of them have not attended a single protest or party meeting from past two months.
