Cluster classrooms for ex-students in DU

Delhi University plans to start cluster classrooms for students who failed their second year exam under the annual system – and  are repeating the year – to avoid a clash with the new second year batch which is following the semester system.

The semester system came into effect last year, beginning with freshers who are joining the second year this season.   From this academic session, only the third year is on annual mode.

Cluster classrooms, clubbing together annual system students who failed second year in different colleges, is being seen as a possible solution to accommodate both systems this year.

“We have asked colleges to send us the number of students who have failed in their second year and taken readmission to repeat the year. Since the new batch of second year students has semester system in place, we are planning cluster classrooms for last year’s second year students, who were taught in the annual mode,” said a senior DU official.

Once the colleges send in the lists, separate classes will be held for these students which  could begin next month. As of now, there is some confusion.

A professor of English at Miranda House wondered if the system will mean that his students will be taught by a teacher from another college, and vice versa.
The teacher also asked, “Since these students have taken readmission why are they being treated like students who are not a part of the class?”
