Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday met rebel Congress leader C K Jaffer Sharief at his residence and urged him not to take any hasty decision of quitting the party for not having got a ticket to contest from the Bangalore Central constituency.

Siddaramaiah, who was accompanied by Minister Roshan Baig, is learnt to have told Sharief that the party needed his guidance during the elections, and assured the senior leader that he would convey his feelings to the party high command. Sharief is said to have told the chief minister that he would rather follow the guidance of the Almighty.

Earlier in the day, Sharief met some Muslim religious leaders at a hotel and discussed his next political step. He is understood to have said in the meeting that he would join hands with secular forces to check communalists.

The JD(S) has been trying to woo Sharief to contest from Mysore.

When contacted, Sharief said: “The chief minister came... and went. I do not want to reveal the details of the meeting to the media.”
