Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has accused the Congress of dividing society on the basis of religion.

“The Congress is indulging in casteist politics while the BJP at the Centre is speaking of development. This party with a dynastic rule cannot change the picture of the country,” Gadkari said addressing an election rally in Karwar on Monday.

He said that the Congress government in Karnataka had created a record of sorts in corruption in the past five years. “More than half of the ministers of Siddaramaiah Cabinet will go to jail if the BJP government comes to power and conducts a probe.”

He said only two km of highway was being laid per day during the UPA rule and now 28 km of road was being laid per day during Modi’s rule.

Gadkari said that the state government did not submit a proposal for developing the Belekeri port near Ankola despite the Centre offering to spend Rs 5,000 crore for the purpose under “Sagarmala” project.

He said that at least 50,000 youth from Uttara Kannada, Belagavi, Vijayapura and Dharwad district would get jobs if the Belekeri port was developed.
