 A former assistant commissioner of customs was sentenced to three years in jail by a Delhi court on Thursday for possessing disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 19 lakh while being posted at a port in 1998.


Special CBI Judge Manoj Jain awarded a three-year jail term to Kulwaran Singh after convicting him under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.


Beside Kulwaran, his wife Kulwant Kaur and six accomplices were sentenced with varying jail terms. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on Kulwaran. The railway protection force claimed to have recovered Rs 15 lakh in cash and gold worth Rs 1.5 lakh from Kulwant when she was travelling to Amritsar.

The CBI said after being questioned by the railway police, Kulwant was not able to give any convincing explanation and was arrested.
