Delhi is one of the best metropolises and has seen massive infrastructure development ahead of the Commonwealth Games 2010, said Lieutenant Governor Tejendra Khanna at the launch of Transit Oriented Development workshop series on Friday, organised by the Delhi Development Authority.
However, he said there are many areas under severe stress mode, which needs greater micro-planning, development and re-development.
TOD is a mixed-use residential and commercial area designed to maximise access to public transport, and often incorporates features to encourage transit ridership.
“Pedestrians should be given preference, and there is a huge deficit in water and management of waste disposal. So issues are required to be tackled at a bigger scale with a professional approach,” he said.
“This leads to a positive transformation of the city to make it a global metropolis,” Khanna said, adding that everyone should come together for TOD. Chairman of the Supreme Court-appointed Environment Protection and Control Authority Bhure Lal said TOD will be a challenge to the authorities while implementing it as it will need to change the already designed town plan.
