In a bid to boost the overall business tempo, the All India Tax Advocates Forum (AITAF) has urged the Finance Minister to reduce the upper limit of 'pre-deposit' for the filing of an appeal to Appellate Authority and Appellate Tribunal to Rs 10 crore under the GST rules.

"We strongly suggest that the pre-deposit amount under the GST should be fixed at 7.5 per cent at first stage of appeal and 2.5 per at second level totalling together at maximum of 10 per cent of disputed tax amount subject to maximum of Rs 10 crore," the AITAF President M K Gandhi said in a statement issued here.

He expressed concern over the proposal of the GST Council to fix the ceiling on the amount to be deposited before filing an appeal to the Appellate Authority at 10 per cent of the disputed tax amount subject to a maximum of Rs 25 crore.

"In the interest of the business community and the economy, the government must bring down the maximum amount of pre-deposits for filing an appeal to Rs 10 crores as per pre-GST era," he suggested.
