The son of a former Jammu and Kashmir minister was assaulted and robbed by three men after being lured by a 19-year-old girl he met and befriended at a five star hotel’s discotheque a day earlier.

They had decided to meet outside her home at Garhi near Amar Colony late at night on March 31. Instead she asked him to drive to an isolated parking area where the assaulters waited with an iron rod and a plan to rob him.

The girl, Zoya, and her accomplices, who include her boyfriend Sunil Kumar Gupta, were arrested on Sunday.

The 27-year-old victim owns a hotel in Ladakh and was in Delhi for the past few days on a business visit. He was staying with his sister, who lives in Green Park.

Police said that though no similar cases have been reported against the gang so far, it is likely there have been more such victims who chose not to inform police.

A senior police officer said Zoya was a regular visitor to discotheques in Delhi and kept a lookout for possible victims. “At many of these discotheques, entry is free for women visitors if they arrive with a male friend. Zoya, a school dropout, used these opportunities to look for easy targets, who would splurge their money on her,” a police officer said.

The victim had visited the discotheque on March 30 and met Zoya inside. They exchanged numbers and spoke to each other the next day. They decided to meet that very night and he reached Garhi. She got into his car and she told him to drive to a parking area which was isolated. As soon as he got off the vehicle, he was allegedly attacked with an iron rod by three men. The girl escaped from the spot.

He was robbed of his wrist watch, an iPhone and ATM card. They allegedly forced him to reveal his ATM PIN, withdrew Rs 9,000 and then fled after returning the card.

Amar Colony police identified one of the accused as Gupta, a vegetable vendor, from the CCTV footage of the ATM and nabbed him. Through him the other three were held. All the stolen items were recovered from them.

Police said the girl planned the attack with the three after the victim confirmed their meeting time and location.
