Holding the Jammu and Kashmir government responsible for failing to take action against those involved in supplying spurious drugs, the Doctors’ Association of Kashmir (DAK) on Monday called for street protests against the issue.

DAK alleged that drugs that have been declared fake are continuously being supplied to the Valley. “This is done under a well-planned conspiracy to kill Kashmiris,” said DAK president Nisar ul Hassan here.

He asked people to come on the streets to put pressure on the government to take action against those who supply fake drugs.

Hassan said the injection Curecef (Ceftraxone) was declared fake by an analytical report in 2011. “But the more shocking aspect is that the report was not exposed, which makes it clear that there are criminal intentions of people involved in this trade,” said Hassan.

“This injection contains particulate matter which, if a patient was to consume it, can lead to death. But the height of irresponsibility is that despite reporting the fake drug continuously, it is being supplied to the Valley. This shows there are clear intentions to kill Kashmiris through fake drugs,” Hassan said.

He alleged that former health minister Sham Lal Sharma has a close business relationship with a distributor, “who is involved in supplying fake drugs”.
