A day after he was “forced out” of Mysore-Kodagu Lok Sabha constituency, citing violation of the model code of conduct, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday described it as ‘misinterpretation of law by the Election Commission of India’.
Speaking to reporters after casting his vote at his native Siddaramanahundi village, Varuna hobli in Mysore district, (coming under Chamarajanagar Lok Sabha constituency), Siddaramaiah said that the Election Commission was “totally wrong”.
He chose to dismiss the episode saying, “It’s not an issue at all.” Siddaramaiah said, “My permanent residence is in Mysore. Where do I have to stay?” Reiterating that Congress would win not less than 20 seats, Siddaramaiah dismissed BJP’s claims that they would win more seats.
“Even pre-poll surveys by some news channels are baseless. They have come out with varied predictions. Have they sought the opinion of all the 16 lakh voters?,” Siddaramaiah said, referring to Mysore district.
Back-to-back trips
Siddaramaiah, who was forced to leave for Bangalore by road on Wednesday, arrived in a special flight at the Mysore Airport on Thursday afternoon.
According to party workers, Siddaramaiah had driven to his T K Layout residence in Mysore on Wednesday, before resuming his journey to Siddaramanahundi. He had stayed at the house of his supporter for some time and left for Bangalore, much before the BJP workers took exception to his stay and staged a protest in front of the deputy commissioner’s office.
