An Ambassador car of Aam Aadmi Party leader Rajesh Garg sank into a drain while he was meeting locals in outer Delhi’s Samaipur Badli on Wednesday.

Police said the car was parked on Siraspur Road by Garg’s driver.

“There was nobody in the car. The driver had failed to apply the hand brake due to which it went into the drain,” said a police officer.

Garg was the MLA from Rohini after last year’s election. The car was taken out by a team of police and the fire department. Initially, it was feared that there could be occupants trapped inside.

“The car was pulled out using a recovery truck and it was found locked,” the officer added.

Garg had taken people by surprise when he arrived at the Vidhan Sabha for the first day of the Assembly in an e-rickshaw adorned with brooms. Subsequently, he was at the forefront of all e-rickshaw protests that the party launched.

He had also polished shoes at a crossing in the capital to show the plight of e-rickshaw drivers who had been left jobless after the High Court order.
