Fake PMO official lands behind bars

A fraudster, who duped a lawyer by posing as an IAS officer posted with the Prime Minister’s Office, was produced in a local court here on Friday and sent to police custody till November 10.

Jaipur Police apprehended Rambabu Gujjar, 35, in Bhopal on Thursday.  He had duped a city lawyer of Rs 5 lakh on the pretext of getting him a job of legal
advisor.

“He is a big fraudster. A number plate on his vehicle had Government of India, Prime Minister’s Office, and New Delhi written on it. Our team also found fake identity cards, visiting cards, passes of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha,” said commissioner of police B L Soni.

Gujjar had told the lawyer that he was a programme officer at the PMO.  The accused after winning the confidence of the lawyer, had demanded Rs 15 lakh  to get him a job of legal advisor in a big company, an official said.

Booked in Bhopal

During investigation, it was found that Bhopal Police had  registered cases of Arms Act and rape against Gujjar.  “During his one-month stay in Bhopal, he had duped a sarpanch of a village on the pretext of doing him a favour from the Prime Minister’s Office and had charged Rs 2 lakh,” the official said.
