Amidst reports that Baby Falak will be discharged from the AIIMS Trauma Centre next week, the question of her guardianship still looms large.

The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) is her legal guardian. But sending her to a shelter home might mean a reversal of all the work done over the past two months to save and cure the child.

"Falak needs special care. She is physically and mentally very vulnerable.

“Someone from Child Welfare Committee will have to come whom we will explain how to handle the child," said a senior doctor from the trauma centre.

Sources said the hospital is not willing to hand the child over to the family.

The doctors said improvement that Falak has shown in the last one week has increased the possibility of her coming out of vegetative state, provided she is being cared for intensively.

"She needs careful and regular physiotherapy. But the injury caused to her brain will not let her lead a normal life," said the doctor.

Falak was brought to the trauma centre on January 18 by a teenage girl who claimed to be her mother.

The child had broken skull and arms, iron burnt marks and human bite marks on body.
Police investigation revealed a racket of human trafficking and prostitution.
