Filing of nominations starts from today

“The candidates will start filing nominations for Assembly elections from April 17,” said District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner P I Sreevidya.

Addressing reporters on Monday, she said that the scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on April 25. April 27 is the last date to withdraw nominations. The election will be held on May 12 and the counting will be held on May 15.

Those who are contesting from Madikeri are supposed to file nominations at the assistant commissioner’s office in Madikeri and those contesting from Virajpet can file nominations at tahsildar office, Virajpet. The nominations can be filed on the said dates from 11 am to 3 pm.

The nominations should be filed in 2B format. The candidate has to sign on all pages of the nomination and affidavit. No column should be left blank. The certificates should be attested. The candidate has to submit the certified copy of the list of voters in his constituency. The candidate’s age should not be less than 25 years.

A candidate can submit up to four nominations. For regional or national party candidates, there should be one proposer, and 10 proposers for independent candidates.

The election commission has nominated observers for the elections. T Srikanth will be the general observer, Dr Satyajit Nayak will be the police observer and Jayakumar Meena will be the election observer, she said.

Also, P N Suresh Kumar will be the observer of expenditures in the Madikeri constituency and H S Prakash in Virajpet.
