The Central Bureau of Investigation registered a fresh case against arms dealer Abhishek Verma. Some unidentified defence ministry officials too have been charged under the Official Secrets Act on Wednesday.

The agency registered the case in a special court after a formal complaint was received from the defence ministry stating that documents purportedly provided by US-based attorney C Edmond Allen, Verma’s business associate, were classified and violated under OSA.

Allen had purportedly provided documents dealing with acquisitions and future plans of the defence forces to CBI and other investigating agencies.

Bail to wife

A special court on Wednesday granted bail to Verma’s Romanian wife Anca Neacsu in the forgery case on condition that she will not leave the country without permission.

Despite being granted bail in this case, however, Anca will remain in jail since she is also accused in a money laundering case for which she has been remanded in judicial custody until September 10.A CBI special judge granted bail to Anca on a personal bond of Rs 5 lakh.
Besides not leaving the country without permission, the court also asked the accused not to tamper with evidence or influence witnesses in the case.
