The crisis at the Mandur landfill site appears to have affected garbage collection in the City. It has been nearly two weeks since the garbage was last collected at Eshwara Layout and other areas in Indiranagar.

Heaps of uncleared garbage have been attracting stray dogs and also stoked fear of outbreak of epidemic.

“Even if we do not want to dump the garbage in the locality, what choice do we have if the garbage collection trucks do not come?,” said Malathi, a resident.

Mahesh, a garbage collector, said that the waste collection was halted due to the crisis in Mandur.

In Amarjyothi Layout, Domlur, garbage collection vans resumed work on Friday, after a gap of nearly 15 days. P Ravishankar, a resident, has even lodged a complaint with the BBMP, but in vain.

Purushottam, president of the Ulsoor Welfare Association, said that the Mandur crisis apart, contractors were always lax in disposing of the waste in the area.

“Collection of garbage was stopped in our area for two days. Only after we raised a hue and cry, they began collecting the waste.”

An official at BBMP, however, said that no complaints had been received about the absence of garbage collection vans.
