Joint Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Deven Bharti requested not to circulate the clip on social media as a lot of anxious parents were calling up the police.

The video was shot from a window by neighbours. It shows the girl - wearing a white T-shirt and a pair of black pants - standing on the parapet. She then balances herself, waits for a few moments before taking the leap.

The neighbours reportedly urged her not to jump but it did not deter her from taking the extreme step.

The Samata Nagar police station has registered a case and investigation is in progress.
