The members of Hanchya Grama Panchayat on the outskirts of the city, have chalked out a proposal for the effective implementation of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the ambitious project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, GP member Mohammad Tahir Ali said that the proposal also helps create jobs. "The proposal has been forwarded to both prime minister and the chief minister. There are 439 GPs in Karnataka. All GPs should be equipped with vehicles that have ladders for maintaining streetlights, a machine to clean underground drainage and a vehicle to transport garbage," he said.
An amount of Rs 79 crore is required for providing basic facilities to all the gram panchayats in Karnataka. In order to meet this expenditure, the panchayats should collect a nominal amount of Rs 40 from each villager. This model will also generate jobs for 8,700 persons and it is 50 lakh across India.
"Therefore, prime minister need not advise youth to sell pakoras. Besides, with this model, his pet Swachh Bharat Abhiyan will be a success. This way Mahatma Gandhi's Gram Swaraj dream will also be a reality," he said.
