A 32-year-old truck driver has been arrested for killing a man in southwest Delhi’s Bindapur last week. The culprit was against his brother marrying the cousin of the man he killed, police said on Thursday.

The accused has been identified as Raju, who hails from Sitapur district of Uttar Pradesh. He was nabbed after 35-year-old Ram Bahadur was found dead in front of Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya on May 2. “His face was crushed beyond recognition,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West) R A Sanjeev.

He was later identified as Ram Bahadur, who also hailed from Sitapur district and worked as a barber in Bindapur.

Questioning of his relatives revealed that his cousin Reshma was scheduled to marry a man named Sonu from Sitapur district.

It was to be Sonu’s second marriage. After this marriage was fixed, Sonu had started living with Ram’s family.Sonu’s family was annoyed with his decision as he had also separated from his wife. Sonu’s first wife also happened to be Raju’s sister-in-law.  “Raju was against the proposed marriage. He had approached Ram and requested him to cancel the wedding, but neither Ram nor Sonu were honouring the request,” Sanjeev added.
It annoyed Raju and he then made a plan to kill Ram. Late on May 2, Raju met Ram in Tooda Mandi in Najafgarh.

After a brief discussion, Raju invited Ram for a liquor party on Matiala Road. Raju had also called his brother-in-law Babloo to execute his plan to kill Ram.Once Ram was completely drunk, Raju and Babloo thrashed him with a stick and a iron rod.

“They repeatedly hit Ram on his face to the extent that his face was crushed beyond recognition,” Sanjeev said.

Raju is the eldest son among four brothers. He is married and has two sons.
