The life sentence awarded to a private tutor for pushing a 15-year-old girl student, with whom he allegedly had an affair, to death from the fourth floor of his coaching centre in 2001 has been upheld by the Delhi High Court.

A bench of justices S Ravindra Bhat and Pratibha Rani upheld the life sentence given to tutor Ravi Ghai, saying there was no error in trial court ruling, convicting him. "We affirm the findings of the trial court that evidence adduced by the prosecution conclusively and unerringly points towards Ghai's guilt, as the one who pushed the girl from the fourth floor resulting in her instantaneous death," the bench said.

"We do not find any error or infirmity in the impugned judgment and order," it observed, dismissing Ghai's appeal.
