Ram Prasad (name changed) rushed home in Uttar Pradesh's Deoria district, about 325 km from here, all the way from Ludhiana in Punjab, where he worked, on being told that his 14-year old daughter had been raped.
He immediately lodged a complaint with police at the Gauri Bazar police station in the district and sought action against the culprit, who happened to be his neighbor.
On Thursday, Ram Prasad was found hanging in the courtyard of his house at his village in Gauri Bazar area.
It later turned out that he had been strangled to death and later his body was hanged to make it look like a suicide.
Police have registered a case of murder and detained one person in this connection.
According to police sources here on Friday, a youth, who lived in the neighborhood, raped Ram Prasad's minor daughter when she was alone at home, a couple of days ago.
As Ram Prasad worked at Ludhiana in Punjab, he was informed about the incident.
He reached home on Monday and lodged a complaint with the police.
Sources said that the family members of the culprit exerted pressure on him to withdraw the complaint and compromise but he flatly refused.
The police also asked Ram Prasad to settle the matter in exchange for financial compensation but he remained adamant on punishing him.
On Thursday night, Ram Prasad was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his courtyard.
The police said that prima facie it appeared that he was strangled to death and then hanged.
A case was registered against three people, the police said adding that one of them has been arrested.
