India book their semis spot

That was a thriller though the scorecard would not suggest it. India looked to be in cruise control once Shakib fell to Pandya but Sabbir and Saifuddin thought otherwise. They took apart Shami to launch a terrific counter attack, put on a 50-run partnership but were undone by the best bowler in the world- Jasprit Bumrah.

The chase started well with Tamim looking especially in good touch, taking Bumrah and Bhuvi for a few boundaries before Shami came into the attack and took him out. Soumya then attacked for a bit before gifting his wicket to Pandya and Mushfiqur Rahim fell victim to a well-laid plan. Liton Das was doing a good job of supporting Shakib, who hit another half-century, as has been the case for most of this World Cup.

Pandya then returned to get rid of both Liton and Shakib, while Bumrah got Mosaddek in between. Sabbir and Saifuddin then joined hands to give Indians the world over a minor scare, but Bumrah as usual returned to get rid of the former. Saifuddin was not ready to accept defeat though as he hit a few more boundaries, even as Mortaza perished. However, Virat brought Bumrah on for his final over, and he got two wickets in two balls to hand the win to India.

47.5 Bumrah to Rubel, OUT, classic Bumrah yorker. Too good for most batsmen, certainly too good for a no.10. Bowls it perfectly in the blockhole, Rubel had backed away exposing all stumps and Boom does not need them to hit the bullseye

Rubel b Bumrah 9(11)

The Fizz is the last man in

41.6 Shami to Sabbir, 1 run.

Ban 225/6 (40 overs)

Hardik back for his final over.

39.1 Pandya to Saifuddin, FOUR, oh wow these two still believe they can chase it down! Short from round the wicket and it is pulled to deep mid wicket

39.2 Pandya to Saifuddin, 1 run, taps this to the off side and sets off, Hardik picks it up and throws, missed the stumps or would have caught him short easily

37.2 Shami to Sabbir, FOUR, short down the leg side, this time helped away much more easily to the fine leg fence

Ban 190/6 (36 overs)

Mohammad Saifuddin is in at no.8

35.1 Pandya to Sabbir, WIDE, deemed too short for comfort

35.1 Pandya to Sabbir, FOUR, short at his waist, turned to deep backward square and unlucky for Bumrah in the deep. Fielded it well with a dive, had KL for support, threw it towards him but did not get the direction right, and it went into the ropes. Hardik has his hands on his head

Bumrah is being looked at while the whole of India holds its breath. He is walking away with Patrick Farhart, some issue with his shoulder, does not look serious. Jaddu is on the field now

35.2 Pandya to Sabbir, DOT, defended down the wicket

35.3 Pandya to Sabbir, 2 runs, short and he chops the pull to deep square leg

35.4 Pandya to Sabbir, DOT, Sabbir maybe doing a MS/Kedar here. Bowled on a length and he defends on the front foot

35.5 Pandya to Sabbir, 1 run, ok he is not doing impersonating them. Goes for a pull, mistimes it down the wicket for one

35.6 Pandya to Saifuddin, DOT.

Ban 179/6 (33.5 overs)

The players took drinks after that wicket. Sabbir Rahman is in at no.7, and he probably is the last recognized batsman. Has to hang around wtih Shakib if Bangladesh want to get close

33.1 Pandya to Shakib, 1 run, guided to third man

33.2 Pandya to Sabbir, DOT, full outside off, he brings out a nice front foot defence

33.3 Pandya to Sabbir, 1 run, straying on the pads now, helped to fine leg

33.4 Pandya to Shakib, DOT, slower short ball, he goes for the pull, does not hit it despite jumping up, Hardik has a wide smile at him

33.5 Pandya to Shakib, OUT, that should be the game for India! This is a tremendous spell from Hardik. Gets the big fish this time. This was a fuller ball, followed Shakib as he backed away, he was cramped for room, and the slowness of the pitch means that his attempted push is through before the ball comes to him, and it lobs to DK again at extra cover

Shakib c Karthik b Pandya 66(74)

Ban 173/5 (32.2 overs)

32.1 Bumrah to Shakib, 1 run, yorker on leg stump, flicked to backward square

30.5 Bumrah to Shakib, 1 run, full pace delivery on a length, played to third man for a single

30.6 Bumrah to Mosaddek, DOT.

Ban 162/4 (29.4 overs)

29.1 Pandya to Liton, DOT, angles it in, strikes Das on the pads, but it is down leg and also high

29.3 Pandya to Liton, DOT, this time flicks to mid wicket

29.4 Pandya to Liton, OUT, soft dismissal and Hardik strikes again! It is a big wicket too, because Das was in good form this WC. Proper short delivery, at full pace, he goes to pull, is too late on it and it lobs to DK at mid wicket

Liton c Karthik b Pandya 22(24)

Ban 147/3 (28 overs)

Pandya is back. KL gets some massages on his shoulder from Patrick Farhart, after he dived to save the boundary last over

27.1 Pandya to Shakib, DOT.

27.2 Pandya to Shakib, DOT, great yorker but he digs it out well, good effort from Hardik too to leap up and take the pace off

27.3 Pandya to Shakib, 1 run, run out check sent upstairs! This was short, he pulled to deep mid wicket, Liton set off for the second, had to dive back in and Chahal's fumble helped him a bit there

Liton calls for new gloves after that dive

27.4 Pandya to Liton, 1 run, plays this softly towards mid on and calls early this time

27.5 Pandya to Shakib, FOUR, poor from DK at extra cover and Hardik is down on his haunches. Shakib chopped the drive there, it bounced just in front of him, surprised him and then ran past

27.6 Pandya to Shakib, 2 runs. Fifty for Shakib!

Ban 139/3 (27 overs)

Bhuvi is back.

26.1 Bhuvneshwar to Liton, 2 runs, steered past backward point for a couple

25.4 Shami to Liton, DOT, mistimes the drive on the full ball to mid on

25.5 Shami to Liton, 2 runs, short and he pulls very well to the deep backward square fence, excellent work by KL in the deep to save two

25.6 Shami to Liton, 1 run.

Ban 127/3 (25 overs)

Liton Das in at no.5 and he is another very good keeper-batsman

24.1 Chahal to Liton, DOT, played with an open face to point

24.2 Chahal to Liton, DOT, the straighter delivery on off, defended on the front foot

24.3 Chahal to Liton, 1 run, brings out the sweep to the full ball, keeps it along the ground to deep square leg

24.4 Chahal to Shakib, DOT, comes down the track, yorks himself and plays it back

24.5 Chahal to Shakib, DOT, softly played to mid wicket on the back foot

24.6 Chahal to Shakib, 1 run.

Ban 121/3 (23 overs)

22.1 Chahal to Shakib, DOT, leading edge and there is no one at short cover! Would have carried straight to him

22.2 Chahal to Shakib, 1 run, to long on

22.3 Chahal to Rahim, DOT, spinning away from outside off, he leaves it alone

22.4 Chahal to Rahim, FOUR, excellent shot! Short and spinning away, he went back and cut past gully

22.5 Chahal to Rahim, DOT, chops the cut to short third man

22.6 Chahal to Rahim, OUT, Yuzi has the last laugh! Another plan works to perfection. Mushfiq loves the slog sweep, there was a mid wicket in place for that. Yuzi bowled it with good flight, dipped it in time for the sweep, Mushfiq went for it full bloodied but straight into the hands of mid wicket. This is a big wicket because he has a good record against India and was looking good with Shakib beside him. Yuzi waves his fingers for a subtle goodbye too for good measure!

Rahim c Shami b Chahal 24(23)

Ban 116/2 (22 overs)

21.1 Pandya to Shakib, FOUR, short and wide, he is not going to miss out on that, cuts ferociosuly through gully

21.2 Pandya to Shakib, 1 run, angled in, guided easily to third man

21.3 Pandya to Rahim, 1 run, fuller outside off, a nice stride forward to push this to sweeper cover

21.4 Pandya to Shakib, 1 run, length on middle stump, nudged to mid wicket for one

21.5 Pandya to Rahim, 1 run, short and he rolls his wrists on the pull to deep backward square

21.6 Pandya to Shakib, 1 run.

My word!

Ban 104/2 (20 overs)

19.2 Pandya to Shakib, DOT, angled in from round the wicket, defended towards point

19.3 Pandya to Shakib, 2 runs, cramped for room, still plays the cut wide of third man for a couple

19.4 Pandya to Shakib, 1 run, guides it straight to third man now

19.5 Pandya to Rahim, 1 run, short and helped to fine leg

19.6 Pandya to Shakib, 1 run.

Ban 98/2 (19 overs)

18.1 Chahal to Shakib, DOT.

18.2 Chahal to Shakib, DOT.

18.3 Chahal to Shakib, 1 run, is sufficiently back this time to turn to square leg

18.5 Chahal to Rahim, FOUR, this is a good shot! Sees there is no deep mid wicket, goes for the slog sweep and gets it into the ropes

18.6 Chahal to Rahim, 1 run.

Ban 88/2 (18 overs)

17.1 Pandya to Shakib, 1 run, guided to third man

17.2 Pandya to Rahim, DOT.

17.6 Pandya to Shakib, 1 run.

Ban 79/2 (17 overs)

The players took drinks after that wicket and Mushfiqur Rahim is in at no.4. Umpire had a bit of a talk with Kohli after that finger gesture, maybe warning him a bit. It all ends in smiles though

16.1 Chahal to Rahim, 1 run, driven to long off

16.2 Chahal to Shakib, 1 run, looks to glance, gets a thin edge and MS cannot gather

16.3 Chahal to Rahim, 1 run, full and square driven to deep cover

16.4 Chahal to Shakib, DOT, short and spinning in, punched to mid wicket

16.5 Chahal to Shakib, 1 run, played to mid wicket for a quick run

16.6 Chahal to Rahim, DOT.

Ban 74/2 (15.1 overs)

Hardik Pandya into the attack finally.

15.1 Pandya to Soumya, WIDE, deemed too high

15.1 Pandya to Soumya, OUT, he strikes straight away! This is good captaincy from Kohli, and good bowling from Hardik. Soumya was looking for the lofted shots over cover the past over, so this time Virat stations himself at short cover, and Hardik bowls short, Soumya goes for it and hits straight into the hands of the skipper. He raises the finger towards the umpire, suggesting that this time he is gone for sure (after that DRS)

Soumya c Kohli b Pandya 33(38)

Ban 73/1 (15 overs)

14.1 Chahal to Shakib, DOT, spinning in from off, he was too far across, is hit on the back leg

14.2 Chahal to Shakib, 1 run, to wide long on

14.3 Chahal to Soumya, 1 run, defends on the front foot, gets an inside edge and takes the quick single

14.4 Chahal to Shakib, DOT, looks for the sweep, is not quite to the pitch, gets it to mid wicket

14.5 Chahal to Shakib, 1 run, now he does, hits it to wide long on

14.6 Chahal to Soumya, 1 run.

Ban 69/1 (14 overs)

Okay, MS is back to keep. Maybe needed a bathroom break or something.

13.1 Shami to Soumya, FOUR, great shot! With mid off up in the ring, he came down the track and lofted it over that man to collect a good boundary

13.2 Shami to Soumya, 1 run, chops this length ball to third man

13.3 Shami to Shakib, DOT, full and angling in, at good pace too, he looks to flick but gets an outside edge along the ground towards short cover

13.4 Shami to Shakib, DOT, surprise short ball, makes him duck under it

13.5 Shami to Shakib, 1 run, full on the pads, flicked to deep square leg

13.6 Shami to Soumya, FOUR, this is smart batting and not good bowling. Bowls it short and wide, Soumya knows covers are up and flays it over them

Ban 59/1 (13 overs)

Yuzi Chahal is into the attack.

12.1 Chahal to Shakib, FOUR, poor ball to start, goes short, Shakib is in such good form, he shuffled across and paddles it very fine

12.2 Chahal to Shakib, DOT, spinning back in a long way from outside off, played to mid wicket

12.3 Chahal to Shakib, DOT, defended on the front foot

12.4 Chahal to Shakib, 2 runs, turned away to fine leg

12.5 Chahal to Shakib, DOT, fuller and spinning in, tucked to square leg

12.6 Chahal to Shakib, DOT.

Ban 53/1 (12 overs)

A bit unusual this. MS has left the field and Pant has taken over keeping duties

11.1 Shami to Soumya, FOUR, beautiful! Full outside off, driven on the up past extra cover and mid off

11.2 Shami to Soumya, DOT, Virat goes for the DRS! Shami angled it in from round the wicket, it kept a bit low, struck him on the front pad. It was a huge shout and looked close as well. Seems to be no inside edge, in fact very similar to Rohit vs Windies, seems to have hit bat and pad simulatenously here. No conclusive evidence says third umpire, and he stays with the on field decision.

Virat is not happy at all and is having a major discussion with the umpires. He did not have a look at ball tracking, which means India lose the DRS.

11.3 Shami to Soumya, 1 run, taps this to mid wicket and takes a quick single

11.4 Shami to Shakib, DOT, beauty! Angles it in and gets it to straighten, beats the bat and goes on the bounce to Pant

11.5 Shami to Shakib, DOT, plays with an open face towards third man

11.6 Shami to Shakib, 1 run.

Ban 47/1 (11 overs)

Shakib in at no.3 and his wicket will be key if India want to win this. It is also the end of first powerplay, so expect to see Hardik Pandya into the attack now. He should look to bowl cutters because the pitch is slow. Bumrah to bowl for now.

10.1 Bumrah to Shakib, DOT, starts full to him, outside off, he pushes to mid off and thinks better of the run

10.2 Bumrah to Shakib, FOUR, terrific shot! This was full outside off again, it is a packed off side field, so he drives it along the ground past mid on. Shot of a man in form

10.3 Bumrah to Shakib, DOT, angles it on a length on leg stump, played to mid wicket

10.4 Bumrah to Shakib, 1 run, slower full ball on middle, flicked to square leg

10.5 Bumrah to Soumya, 1 run, short and wide, he gets it off the toe end to deep cover

Tamim b Shami 22(31)

Ban 38/0 (9 overs)

7.2 Shami to Soumya, DOT.

7.3 Shami to Soumya, 2 runs, back of a length outside off, deftly helped wide of third man for a couple

7.5 Shami to Soumya, DOT, smart batting, saw the length early and went back to defend

7.6 Shami to Soumya, DOT.

Ban 28/0 (7 overs)

A post-powerplay review from our on-ground reporter

The morning has been largely cloudy, but Indian openers have made hay in the first 10 overs, racing to 69/0 – their best power play score of the tournament yet. Rohit was reprieved by Tamim Iqbal on nine and he is making them for it. K L Rahul has begun to play his strokes after a cautious start. The odd ball is keeping low, and the it spun from ball one. It was a good toss to win for India, and score of 280 or more should be a winning total on a pitch that will slow down further.

Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul will be the opening combo again. Rohit has history against Bangladesh, with the 2015 WC quarter-final generating quite a bit of controversy when he was deemed to have been caught off a waist-high full toss which was given as a no-ball. He will look to avoid any such issues this time, and continue with his brilliant form. Rahul meanwhile has to convert the 30s and 40s to a more significant score. The Bangladesh skipper it will be with the new ball.

Time for the national anthems!

Team News

India XI: KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli(c), Rishabh Pant, Dinesh Karthik, MS Dhoni(wk), Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah

Bangladesh XI: Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim(wk), Liton Das, Mosaddek Hossain, Sabbir Rahman, Mohammad Saifuddin, Mashrafe Mortaza(c), Rubel Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman

Ind win toss; to bat first

Virat calls right and he will bat first. Says it is a used wicket and will deteriorate later on. Kuldeep and Jadhav are out, Bhuvneshwar and Dinesh Karthik come into the team.

Mortaza wanted to bat first as well. Mehidy and Mahmudullah are out, Sabbir Rahman and Rubel Hossain are in

Kohli may make changes to the team

So the live visuals show Ravindra Jadeja practicing his bowling pretty hard. Looks like he may make his first appearance at this World Cup in the official playing XI (he has been there as a sub before). May come in for Kedar Jadhav or one of Kuldeep/Chahal.

Dinesh Karthik is also seen doing a lot of keeping drills, though we are pretty sure that that MS will not be replaced. Looks like we will have two changes from the last game, let's wait for Kohli to speak at the toss

India look to go back to winning ways

India's match against England was a high-scoring one, one which England came back into the form which they were feared for prior to the tournament. Dhoni and Jadhav copped a lot of flak for a lack of intent to win in the final overs. Bangladesh are a well-rested side, and are desperate to win their final two games, and somehow make it to the knockouts.

They have been a good side, comprehensively beating Afghanistan and West Indies, while putting up fights against New Zealand, Australia and England. So they are certainly no walkovers and India will have to be wary of them.
