A day after Arif Majeed, the youngster from Kalyan who joined Islamic State (IS) cadres, arrived in Mumbai, he was sent to the custody of the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

He is now being grilled for a blow-by-blow account of his indoctrination, journey from India to West Asia, his time with the Sunni jihadist organisation and the fate of three other boys from his locality.

Engineering student Arif, 23, arrived here on Friday from Turkey; his return was facilitated by various agencies.

He was produced before Additional Sessions Judge P R Deshmukh, who presides over a special NIA court, which remanded him in custody till December 8.

Arif, Fahad Tanvir Sheikh, Aman Naim Tandel and Shahim Farooqi Tanki—all young men in their 20s—had disappeared from Mumbai a few months ago. It came to light later that all of them had joined IS.
