At least eight people died aboard the Italian car ferry Norman Atlantic after it caught fire this weekend off the coast of Albania, the Italian government said Monday, but it could not confirm if dozens more may still be missing. Screen grab
The toll in the Italian ferry blaze has risen to 10, a media report said.
One man was killed when trying to escape from the ship, and nine more bodies have since been found, BBC reported.
More than 400 people were rescued amid gale-force winds and thick smoke.
It is not clear if others are still missing. The Italian authorities said they could not verify the actual number of people originally on board.
Rescuers are still searching the vessel.
The stricken vessel had left the Greek port of Patras en route to Ancona in Italy with 268 people listed on its roster.
