JD(S) national president H D Deve Gowda has decided to campaign intensely only in 12 select constituencies, despite fielding candidates in all 28 parliamentary segments across the State.

Party sources suggest that the JD(S) will be giving importance to ‘winnable’ constituencies like Hassan, Mandya, Bangalore Rural, Uttara Kannada, Shimoga, Chitradurga, Chikkaballapur, Kolar, Mysore and Raichur. It is said that, of the 12 constituencies, the JD(S) may be in a position to win at least six to seven seats in the upcoming elections.

Seat-sharing

It is also said that the JD(S) is contemplating a seat-sharing mechanism in the State by handing over the Udupi-Chikmagalur seat to the Left, as part of their tie-up.

The party is likely to pit Anitha Kumaraswamy from Chikkaballapur against sitting Congress MP Veerappa Moily, with Prabhakar Reddy being the preferred aspirant for Bangalore Rural constituency. Sources state that Gita Shivarajkumar is all but certain to contest from Shimoga. However, JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy said that the final list will be released by March 10.
