Farmland activists from Nagpur-based Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti (VJAS) have dashed off a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner demanding a judicial enquiry into the mysterious ‘deletion of names ‘of several lakh voters from the electoral list in Maharashtra.
Talking to Deccan Herald from Nagpur VJAS chief Kishore Tiwari said that the manipulation of electoral list was not confined to any one particular party, “…both the Congress as well as several leaders from opposition party BJP have allegedly got names transferred to other constituencies or deleted in bulk from places which they felt were not conducive to their candidature.”
According to Tiwari, “Admission by the Election Commissioner H S Brahma was a clear indication that there was something major lapse that had occurred because of manipulation carried out vested interests. Going by the estimates making rounds in media the deletion of voters names touches around eight million…granting that this maybe an exaggeration of figures, the fact of the matter is still grave as not only people have been deprived of their right to exercise their franchise but even the results will be an outcome of an engineered voting demography.”
