A 35-year-old man lost his life after coming under a moving train in north Delhi on Thursday evening while he was listening to music on his mobile phone, police said.

The victim, Suresh, was identified with the help of a PAN (Permanent Account Number) card found in his pocket. He was crossing the railway tracks under the Azadpur flyover when a train coming from Subzi Mandi side hit him.

“We received a call from police control room about the incident around 6 pm. Eyewitnesses claim Suresh could not escape as he was listening to music and was not facing the train,” a police official said.

The police are yet to ascertain the exact reason, as they did not find any mobile phone near the spot. However, they believe that the impact of the train would have thrown the phone some distance away.

“Suresh died on the spot. We are investigating the matter and trying to locate the mobile phone,” the official added.

His body has been sent for post-mortem at Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital in Jahangir Puri.
