A 28-year-old woman whose husband was away to attend a marriage  was gang raped by six men in Ghaziabad on Saturday, police said.

The incident occurred at around 1.00 am on Saturday morning.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) lodged at the Masuri police station in Ghaziabad district, the woman's husband had gone to attend a marriage ceremony in nearby Baghpat.

Six men barged into the house of the woman situated in the Nahal locality. They overpowered the woman and covered her face with a piece of a cloth so that she could not recognise them, police said.

They then gang raped her one by one. But when the woman shouted for help, the rapists fled the spot, added the police.

The woman's daughter, who was in the adjoining room recognised two of the men. They are said to be neighbours,   said a police official.

When the woman's husband returned from the marriage function early Saturday morning, he lodged a complaint with police.

Cops at the Masuri police station registered the case and sent the woman for medical examination.

"The medical report is yet to come but prima facie it seems a case of gang rape.

“We are trying to arrest the culprits but they are absconding as of now," said A K Mishra, SP (rural).
