A 42-year-old MCD sanitation worker was found strangled at a rest house of the corporation in south Delhi’s Sarai Kale Khan on Saturday.

No suspect behind the alleged murder has been identified yet, said police.
Victim Shri Das was a native of Gautam Budh Nagar in Uttar Pradesh and lived with his wife and three sons in south Delhi’s Jal Vihar.

He had been working as a sanitation worker with the MCD on contract for the last 15 years.

Das reported to duty at a government school in Sarai Kale Khan on Friday and then went to relax in a rest house near the bus stand.

When he did not return home by Saturday morning, his eldest son Manish Kumar tried calling him on his mobile number, but to no response.

His son then visited Sarai Kale Khan at about 11 am to check if his father was alright, but found the rest house’s room locked from outside.

“He peeped in through an opening in the room’s window and found his father’s lifeless body on a chair by the wall. The lock was broken and the body recovered from inside,” said a police officer.

There were fingerprint marks on the victim’s neck suggesting he had been strangled to death.

But police said they were waiting for the autopsy report to determine the exact cause of his death.

A case has been registered at the Sunlight Colony police station.
His colleagues and family members are being interrogated, said police.
