A 25-year-old man was strangled by three of his colleagues for abusing them in an inebriated condition at outer Delhi’s Samaypur Badli. The accused have been arrested, police said on Saturday.

The victim has been identified as Mangal, who hails from Madhya Pradesh’s Damoh district. According to police, Mangal’s body was fished out of a drain near Narela-Holambi Kalan Road on Friday.

“A cable was found wrapped around his neck and it appeared that the body was dumped recently,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (Outer) Sanjay Kumar. On further search of the area, a bag was found lying in the drain from which some documents and visiting cards were recovered.

Some phone numbers on the documents were contacted, which revealed Mangal’s identity. Probe revealed that Mangal used to work as a mechanic-cum-supervisor with Saras Bhog Atta mill at Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar.

On questioning the employees, police found that a scuffle had taken place between Mangal and some workers of the mill late on Thursday.

“Mangal had used abusive language against his colleagues under the influence of alcohol,” Kumar added.

Those involved in the scuffle were detained by police and on interrogation, they confessed to have killed Mangal. The accused have been identified as Niyam Pal, 23, Chhatrapal, 24, and Omvir, 22, who were employed as helpers.

They told police that during the scuffle Niyam Pal strangled Mangal with the help of a cable. “The three men then wrapped the body in a gunny bag and dumped it in the drain,” Kumar said.

The accused also took the help of a factory drive, Chaman Yadav, to dump the body. Chaman is absconding. A case of murder and destruction of evidence has been filed with Samaypur Badli police station.
