Delhi government on Monday decided to implement the new hiked rates of minimum wages in respect of unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled categories in all scheduled employments with effect from April 1.
According to labour minister A K Walia, the new rates have been worked out after adjustment of dearness allowance and would also become applicable in respect of clerical and non-technical supervisory staff in all scheduled employments.
As per the new rates, the monthly minimum wages of an unskilled worker are Rs 7,722 as against Rs 7,254 earlier. The per day wages have gone up from Rs 279 to 297.
For semi-skilled workers, the new monthly minimum wages have been fixed at Rs 8,528 instead of Rs 8,008 earlier, with per day wages going up from Rs 308 to Rs 328.
As far as skilled workers are concerned, their new monthly minimum wages have gone up to Rs 9,386 from Rs 8,814 earlier. Their per day wages are now fixed at Rs 361 as against Rs 339 earlier.
In respect of clerical and non-technical supervisory staff in all scheduled emoluments, the new monthly wages in respect of non-matriculates have been fixed at Rs 8,528 as against Rs 8,008 earlier. Their per day wages have gone up from Rs 308 to Rs 328 now.
For matriculates, but not graduates, the new monthly wages are Rs 9,386 instead of Rs 8,814 earlier taking their daily wages from Rs 339 to Rs 361. In respect of graduates and above, the new monthly minimum wages have been fixed at Rs 10,218 as against Rs 9,594 earlier which makes their daily wages go up from Rs 369 to Rs 393.
“Delhi government has been maintaining the highest minimum rates of wages in the country amongst all the states,” said Dr Walia.
He called upon the employers to release payment to workers as per the new hiked rates. Workers are advised to contact the district office of the labour department in case they are not paid wages as per the new rates.
