A 15-year-old girl, working as a domestic help in the house of a retired judge, was found dead under mysterious circumstances outside the employer’s flat in north-west Delhi’s Saraswati Vihar on Monday morning.

The girl has been identified as Poonam, a resident of Shakurpur, who was working at retired judge’s place for the last three months.

She was found lying unconscious in front of Jhulelal Apartments by fthe ormer judge’s driver.

Poonam’s family members allege that she was murdered, but police are waiting for the autopsy and forensic reports to ascertain the exact cause of death.

“Preliminary investigation suggests that Poonam either fell down accidentally from the third floor lobby of the building or she committed suicide at around 11.30 am on Monday,” said a senior police official.

The possibility of foul play has not been ruled out, the official added. Finding it a mysterious case, police have decided to get the post-mortem done by a panel of doctors.

After finding the girl’s body, the driver raised an alarm and informed his employer and other people. They rushed her to a private hospital in Pitampura, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.

Her employer has told police that she went to the lobby for some work and they do not know what exactly happened to her and how she fell off from there.

Contradicting Poonam’s employer and the police theory, victim’s mother Somwati, who also works as a maid in nearby apartments, alleged that her daughter was murdered as she had no reason to commit suicide.

“She has been killed and her employer should be questioned,” said Ram Swaroop, Poonam’s father.

The girl’s body was handed over to her family after a post-mortem at Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital.
