BJP prime ministerial nominee Narendra Modi on Saturday said that women should not be discriminated against and have the freedom to make their own choices on career, education, marriage and having a family.

In the second round of “Chai pe charcha” (discussion over tea) on International Women’s Day, Modi chose to discuss issues related to women. The programme is a BJP effort to attract voters ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

“There is one attitude towards the son and another towards the daughter. To end this discrimination, there is a need of social awareness. We need to change the outlook in the society. Women should be free to choose, whether it is about their career, education, marriage or having a family. Discrimination against women is the root of all troubles,” he said.
