A Nigerian national claims he was kept confined in a house and beaten up by a fellow Nigerian and his friend in south Delhi’s Neb Sarai on March 22.
The incident was reported just two days before a 34-year-old Nigerian national was stabbed to death and another was injured by fellow Nigerian nationals in the same area, but police denied any link between the two cases.
Okfor Basil, a resident of Krishna Park, told police that the assault took place when he went to meet a former roommate, Agbie. “Okfor was supposed to take Rs 25,000 from Agbie as rent and electricity bill of the time when they lived together,” said a police officer.
At about 10 pm, the two men met near Balaji Restaurant. “Agbie came with a friend, and asked Okfor to come to their house in the neighbourhood,” the officer added.
It is alleged that, at the room, Agbie confined Okfor and beat him up. Okfor was allowed to leave after he was threatened with dire consequences over the demand of money.
After the attack, Okfor went to a hospital and later complained at the local police station. A case of wrongful restraint and voluntarily causing grievous hurt has been filed with Neb Sarai police station. Okfor has been staying at Krishna Park for the past one year. “The accused have been arrested,” the officer said.
The incident seemed similar to a brawl between Nigerian nationals in which a man named Osifo was stabbed to death and a man named Kelvin was injured in the wee hours of Tuesday. However, police said that different groups were involved.
