The Congress on Saturday managed some damage control by getting Surjit Singh Kohli, cousin of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, into the party fold a day after it was left uncomfortable with the joining of the prime minister’s step brother D S Kohli in the BJP.

Surjit Singh Kohli, an entrepreneur based in Amritsar, joined the Congress on Saturday. He participated in a road show with Amarinder Singh in the holy city. Manmohan Singh said on Saturday that he felt “very sad” at Daljit joining the BJP.

While D S Kohli has not been politically active, the BJP tried to score brownie points with his induction into the party. Narendra Modi, who held a rally in Amritsar in support of Arun Jaitley, welcomed DS Kohli from the dais. D S Kohli told newspersons that he joined the BJP as he was upset about the way Manmohan Singh was treated by the Congress. A news agency quoted Manmohan Singh at the sidelines of a function in New Delhi on Friday as saying, “I feel very sad. But I have no control over what others do. They are adults.” DH News Service
