KJP founder-president Padmanabha Prasanna has said that he will approach the court against former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa for contesting the Lok Sabha election as a BJP candidate without tendering resignation to the membership of the Assembly.

Yeddyurappa had been elected in the 2013 polls on a KJP ticket.

He told reporters that the claims by Yeddyurappa on KJP’s merger with BJP were false. The merger is not consistent with the existing laws. The Election Commission has also allowed KJP to retain its independent identity, Prasanna said.

Being an MLA elected from KJP, Yeddyurappa cannot contest the Lok Sabha election as a BJP candidate.

He said he would file a complaint with Assembly Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa also in this regard. The court would be urged to nullify Yeddyurappa’s nomination and disqualify him from contesting the election, he added.
