Rebellion brewed in the Samajwadi Party over ticket to the Shahi Imam of Delhi Jama Masjid, Syed Ahmed Bukhari’s son-in-law, Umar Khan for the UP state legislative council.

Minister for urban development Azam Khan on Sunday said this decision was not a good one.

“A straight building can not be constructed when the base is not straight. I was always opposed to giving ticket to Bukhari's son-in-law. It is a wrong decision and the party will have to pay a price for it”, Khan said.

Khan was referring to the demand by Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Saadiq to give representation to the members of the Shia sect in the government and elsewhere.

“Shia Muslims had wholeheartedly supported the SP in the recently concluded assembly elections but they have not been given their due and as a result they are feeling hurt,” the cleric had said.
