Imputing motives to the “silence” of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul on the controversial Robert Vadra deals, the BJP on Monday said the “family” has to something to hide.

With the Gandhi-versus-Modi political tussle escalating daily, Monday saw the BJP provoking Sonia and Rahul with the opposition party officially releasing a booklet and a video on Sonia’s son-in-law Robert Vadra.

The BJP believes that raking up the Robert issue would also discredit his wife Priyanka, who has taken on the mantle of defending her family from the vitriolic attacks unleashed by Modi. She might have a clean image, but the more she tries to defend her husband Vadra, her charm will fade politically, said a BJP source.

"Till today, we don't have the Congress party chief talking about it nor has the Vice President, who said he will bring in great reformatory changes in the party, said anything about it. Congress president Sonia Gandhi and the Vice President, who talked about cleansing the political environment and bringing about democracy in his own party, should have answered the people of India long ago. It is high time now that the Congress President gave an answer," BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said.

Stating that the opposition party will not allow the issue to rest, the BJP leader said, “Her silence is only adding to the suspicion that the Congress family has something to avoid answering.”
