The Coastal Stone and Crusher Owners' Association will stage a protest in both Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts condemning the interference of the government in the process of legal functioning of the stone crusher units on March 6.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, the association's Udupi district president Ravindra Bajagoli said that the pressure on the owners of stone crusher units by the government is not allowing the units to function legally.

The stringent rules and regulations, put forth by the Mines and Geology Department, have forced the crusher units to either shut down or to function illegally.

He demanded that government should immediately respond to their grievances in another two to three days.

The protest on March 6 will be staged statewide.

He said that despite a meeting held with the law minister, the rules have remained the same as against the assurances given. The rules are posing problems to the crusher units. The government has failed to formulate the rules to enable the functioning of crusher units in a legal way. Several protests were held in the past, but in vain, he added.
