Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday suggested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to verify allegations of impropriety against External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje for his own good.
Speaking on the arrest and subsequent resignation of his ex-law minister Jitender Singh Tomar, Kejriwal told Delhi Assembly that Modi too should get rid of people who mislead him. This is the first time he has directly attacked Swaraj and Raje who have found their way into the controversy surrounding former IPL chief Lalit Modi.
“We removed Tomar from the cabinet when he was arrested and sent to police custody,” he said, after one of the BJP legislators sought clarification from him on the arrest and jailing of Tomar.
Not content with his explanation, Vishwas Nagar MLA Om Prakash Sharma walked across the well of the House to confront him verbally over AAP’s commitment towards delivery of a “corruption-free” reign in Delhi. He was forced out of the House by marshals, as Kejriwal remained unruffled.
The CM compared the Tomar case development with the demands now being raised for External Affairs Minister’s resignation.
Saying Tomar may have misled him over the genuineness of his allegedly fake law degree, “It seems Tomar cheated me, kept me in the dark. If allegations against him are true, law will take its own course.”
Modi, Kejriwal said, should take a cue from the AAP government.
“The PM’s cabinet ministers have also kept him in the dark. Sushma Swaraj and Vasundhara Raje should be removed,” the chief minister said.
He also demanded an independent probe into charges that both the Rajasthan CM and the foreign minister helped former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi who fled India.
On Tomar’s alleged fake law degree, the he said, “Tomar’s papers seemed bona-fide but his resignation was accepted as soon as facts against him emerged.”
Kejriwal insisted his AAP government will “not tolerate any wrongdoing”. Tuesday was the first day of the Budget Session.
